Description:

Life & Social Skills Curriculums:

Youth learn essential life and social skills they'll need through interactive animated curriculums that deliver information in clear, relevant, entertaining, and visual formats. They will learn about employment, health, money management, housing, relationships, cooking, transportation, and more.

Some of the programs are short, punchy cartoons and stories; others are full-length, self-paced curriculums with exercises and worksheets; some are also supported by live group instruction. All the work students complete on the site is stored in their personal file cabinet, which is accessible to them and to staff at any time.

Features that Facilitate Personal Skills:

Youth entering Vstreet quickly discover it's a place where they can be themselves, express their ideas, and network with others. For example, users can search for friends in their community with similar hobbies and interests, personalize their V-room, browse or submit their own work to the art gallery or poetry book, get into supervised discussions on bulletin boards and chat rooms, email friends and staff, write confidentially in a private journal, and get instant access to national and local help hotlines. Students can also learn to organize themselves and their work using Vstreet's calendar, address book, and file cabinet.

Management System:

Vstreet gives agencies administrative controls that allow them to customize the site, monitor student progress, and communicate with users. Agency staff can block features, announce events on the community calendar, and create and monitor discussion topics. They can track users' Vstreet activities and access work that's completed by students at any time. They can also stay in touch with their youth by email, bulletin board discussions and the file cabinet. Vstreet regularly prompts youth for updated contact information and automatically relays it to staff -- a truly unique way to sustain and nurture connections.
