Separated from her family at age 9, Risa Bejarano appeared to be a symbol of beating the odds. She rejected the gangs and street life of her siblings, and went off to college in Santa Barbara. Despite the promising outlook for her future, Risa suffered several setbacks and ultimately a tragedy.
