The Lesson Booster Middle School DVD Series presents real-life scenarios demonstrating the feelings that young students often experience, as well as presenting ways to cope with and handle these emotions within a school setting.

Students will learn the importance of respect, self-esteem, anger control, and problem-solving within a school setting. These programs are created for grades 4-7 as a supplement to any guidance curriculum. Each program includes a DVD and a CD-ROM with a lesson plan for implementing the content.

A good addition to a character education or counseling program, the Lesson Booster series presents short segments on a topic plus lesson follow-up questions on a CD in each set. The DVDs geared for older students also give the questions at the end of each video portion. Each topic is covered in three to four segments with a young host introducing the idea and discussing what is seen and to be learned from the scenarios. Topics for younger elementary students include dealing with anger and working through problems with other students. Topics for older elementary students include respecting differences, using empathy, dealing with bullies, showing respect and handling cliques. The series is generally well done with the subject matter covered in age-appropriate detail and ideas given for suitable actions. The short time frames help keep the interest of young viewers and would work well for use during counseling classes. The follow-up questions are good discussion starters to extend the video lessons. Recommend this series to counselors and any others who teach character or issues lessons.
